David Abderhalden has had a distinguished career at Chemeketa Community College, where he currently serves as the Athletic Director. His journey at Chemeketa spans over three decades, beginning in 1993 as an assistant coach for the men's basketball program. Over the years, he has held several key positions within the Health, Human Performance, and Athletic Department, such as Adjunct Physical Education Instructor, Department Technician, Operations Specialist, and Assistant Athletic Director, all while continuing his coaching responsibilities.

Abderhalden's coaching career is marked by notable achievements, including being involved in over 500 wins, securing 8 league championships, and winning 2 NWAC championships. As a head coach for 20 years, he became the all-time winningest coach in Chemeketa men's basketball history, with 358 victories. His teams consistently performed well, winning 5 league championships and placing in the top four of the league 17 times. During 15 NWAC Championship tournament appearances, his teams finished in the top eight on 7 occasions, including playing in 3 championship games and winning two titles in 1999 and 2013. As an assistant coach, he contributed to 179 wins, 3 league championships, and 6 top-eight NWAC tournament finishes.

In his athletic background Abderhalden has also coached high school baseball and basketball, participated as a guest speaker at coaching clinics and recruiting seminars, and worked at camps nationwide. His involvement with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) is extensive, having served on the NWAC sports commission and men's basketball committee for a decade and the NWAC softball committee for three years. He has also directed or co-directed the NWAC Softball Championship Tournament for 11 years. Additionally, Abderhalden contributes to the Chemeketa Title IX Committee and the Salem Sports Council, affiliated with the Travel Salem Organization.

Reflecting on his career, Abderhalden expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with and positively impact young athletes, acknowledging the mutual influence between him and the students he has guided.
