Storm Battle to Split in Oregon City; Yost Shines in Relief
Cuff’s Big Day: Dylan Cuff Notches Four Hits in Wednesday Twin Bill
OREGON CITY, Ore. — The Chemeketa Storm baseball team took their show on the road Wednesday, splitting a high-stakes doubleheader with the Clackamas Cougars. In a day defined by patient hitting and lock-down relief pitching, the Storm secured a 5-3 victory in the opener before falling 3-1 in a tightly contested nightcap.
The results set the stage for a dramatic series conclusion this weekend as the two programs prepare to move the battle back to Salem.
Game 1: Yost Slams the Door in Opener
Final: Chemeketa 5, Clackamas 3
The opening game was a testament to the Storm's resilience. After Clackamas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, Chemeketa capitalized on Cougar miscues in the second inning to jump ahead. Liam Irish provided the big blow in the fifth, lining a two-run single to plate Kyle Sheller and Wyatt Hooper, extending the Storm lead to 4-1.
While starter Jack Klee battled through nearly five innings, the story of the game was Andrew Yost. Entering in a high-leverage spot in the fifth with the lead narrowed to a single run, Yost was untouchable. He tossed four perfect innings of relief, allowing zero hits and zero runs to effectively freeze the Clackamas offense and secure the victory. Dylan Cuff added a crucial insurance RBI in the eighth to provide the final 5-3 margin.
Game 2: Pitching Duel Goes to the Cougars
Final: Clackamas 3, Chemeketa 1
The second game featured another strong performance from the Storm mound, but the bats struggled to find the timely hit. Remy Daravivanh turned in a quality start, striking out seven over 7.0 innings of work, but the Cougars managed to manufacture two runs in the third and one in the sixth to build a 3-0 cushion.
The Storm refused to go quietly, putting runners on base throughout the late innings. In the eighth, Joe Vaccaro gave Chemeketa a spark with a booming RBI triple that brought Liam Irish home, but the rally stalled there. Despite out-hitting the Cougars 9-7—including a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon from Dylan Cuff—the Storm left 10 runners on base, allowing Clackamas to escape with the split.
