Storm Stalled in Eugene: Lane Pulls Away for 77-55 Victory
Board Work: Koroma and Horne Combine for 15 Rebounds in Physical Road Test
EUGENE, Ore. — It was a tale of two halves at Lane Community College on Wednesday night. While the Chemeketa Storm stayed within striking distance through the opening twenty minutes, a second-half surge by the Lane Titans proved too much to handle, resulting in a 77-55 setback for the Storm.
Despite a double-digit scoring effort from Kaden Holm and Gavin Aguilar, Chemeketa struggled to find their rhythm from the perimeter and the charity stripe, falling to a hot-shooting Lane squad that connected on ten triples.
A Competitive Start
The Storm entered the locker room at halftime trailing just 35-30. The offense found success inside early, largely thanks to Kaden Holm, who was nearly automatic from the floor. Chemeketa's defense held Lane relatively in check, but the Titans' Joey Banry began to heat up, foreshadowing a difficult second half for the Storm.
The Perimeter Gap
The defining difference in the contest was the discrepancy in outside shooting. Lane's sharpshooters found their mark frequently, while the Storm struggled to stretch the floor.
-
Lane Titans: 10-of-27 (37.0%) from behind the arc.
-
Chemeketa Storm: 2-of-12 (16.7%) from behind the arc.
As Lane's lead widened in the second half, Chemeketa was forced to play catch-up, leading to 17 turnovers that the Titans efficiently converted into fast-break opportunities.
Storm Standouts
-
Kaden Holm: Was the most efficient offensive weapon for Chemeketa, finishing with 16 points on an impressive 8-of-11 shooting.
-
Gavin Aguilar: Contributed 10 points and dished out 4 assists, though he faced heavy pressure from Lane's guards all night.
-
Ahmad Koroma & Spencer Horne: Controlled the glass for the Storm, combining for 15 rebounds. Koroma pulled down five offensive boards to give the Storm second-chance looks.
-
Jackson Penigar: Provided a spark off the bench with 6 rebounds and 5 points in limited action.
By the Numbers: Efficiency Matters
While Chemeketa actually kept pace in the rebounding battle, the game was lost at the free-throw line and the three-point line.
