Bio

Coach Monty combines elite national experience with a Ph.D. background in kinesiology. As the creator of the “Brooks Model,” he focuses on the mantra “Work Smart, Not Hard,” blending technical efficiency with the mental edge needed to compete at the highest level.

Coaching & Impact

  • ​Chemeketa (Present): Leading the Women’s Distance program with a focus on disrupting the NWAC and the Oregon running scene.

  • Highland Park: Built the program from the ground up, with 90% of athletes hitting lifetime personal bests.

  • Chaffey High School: Coached the XC team to its first-ever Mountain Baldy League title and guided CIF State finalists in jumps.

  • Chaffey College: Guided men’s and women’s 800m runners to conference titles while still competing as a student-athlete.

  • Warren High School: Returned to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant for the distance program, mentoring the next generation of runners in his hometown.

Athletic Career

3x NAIA All-American: Top-10 all-time performer at Azusa Pacific University.

  • U.S. Ranked: Ranked Top 10 nationally in the Indoor 600m (2010–2011).

  • JUCO Standout: 800m Conference Champion and National Top 50 at Chaffey College.

  • 10-time All-State Honoree: (3 in Cross Country, 7 in Track).

Education & Philosophy

  • Academic Rigor: Ph.D. Candidate in Kinesiology, specializing in performance enhancement and corrective exercise.

  • The Brooks Model: A coaching system designed to help athletes "face their fears and run faster" through science-backed training.

  • Community: Active runner for the Portland Race Team. Outside of coaching, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring the great outdoors.
