Chemeketa Wins on the Road at South Puget Sound After Big 2nd Half
Impressive Team Effort Ends With 5 Players Finishing Over 9 Points, Shooting 46.3% as a Team
Chemeketa used a pair of big second-half quarters to pull away from South Puget Sound and earn a 63–55 win on Thursday night (Dec. 18) in Olympia.
After a low-scoring opening quarter that Chemeketa edged 12–10, South Puget Sound flipped the game in the second period behind a strong push on the glass and timely perimeter shooting. The Clippers won the quarter 19–11 to take a 29–23 lead into halftime.
Chemeketa responded immediately after the break. The Storm (or Chemeketa) turned up the defensive pressure and found cleaner looks offensively, outscoring South Puget Sound 20–13 in the third to reclaim the lead, 43–42. The visitors then closed with another 20-point quarter, again holding the Clippers to 13, to secure the eight-point final margin.
Patricia Mike led Chemeketa with 13 points and a game-high 7 assists, knocking down three 3-pointers and helping steady the offense in the second half. Ava Rubio was highly efficient (12 points on 5-of-7 shooting) and filled the stat sheet with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Kaiya Woolsey provided a key lift off the bench with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Mia Fullbright and Ella Holwege added 9 points apiece.
South Puget Sound was paced by Jaynee Tanner's 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Dakota Carson's 15 points, including five made threes. The Clippers created extra chances with 16 offensive rebounds and finished with a 41–33 rebounding edge, but struggled to convert overall, shooting 27.1% from the field (19-of-70). Chemeketa's efficiency—46.3% shooting (25-of-54)—proved decisive, especially as the game tightened late.
Team-wise, both sides hit 6–7 threes (Chemeketa 7; SPS 6), but Chemeketa overcame 18 turnovers by winning the second half 40–26 and closing the game with more consistent shot-making down the stretch. Attendance was listed at 25, and no technical fouls were assessed.
