Storm Stalled at Lane as Titans’ Long-Range Attack Overwhelms Chemeketa
Glass Battle: Lane’s Rebounding Edge Seals Road Setback for Chemeketa
EUGENE, Ore. — The Chemeketa Storm ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday night at Lane Community College, as the Titans' high-octane perimeter game proved impossible to contain in an 85-46 defeat.
While the Storm (17-7, 7-4) showed flashes of grit in the first half, Lane's depth and a relentless barrage of three-pointers ultimately turned the contest into a one-sided affair.
A Tale of Two Arcs
The story of the game was written at the three-point line. Lane Community College put on a shooting clinic, connecting on a staggering 19 triples. Maitlin Young led the charge for the Titans, knocking down seven shots from deep on her way to a game-high 21 points.
In contrast, Chemeketa struggled to find a counter-punch from the outside, finishing just 3-of-14 (21.4%) from beyond the arc. Without the long ball to keep pace, the Storm found themselves battling uphill as Lane built a 22-point halftime lead.
Storm Highlights & Resilience
Despite the scoreline, there were bright spots for the Storm as they navigated a difficult road environment:
-
Mia Fullbright: Battled inside to lead the starters with 10 points and 6 rebounds, proving to be a consistent presence in the paint.
-
Bethany Villegas: Provided a major spark off the bench, matching the team-high with 10 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting performance.
-
Ava Rubio: Was a defensive pest all night, racking up 3 steals and chipping in 8 points.
-
Ella Holwege: Logged 34 minutes and contributed across the board with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
By the Numbers: The Statistical Gap
The Titans utilized their size and depth to win the battle on the glass and facilitate an extra-pass offense that kept the Storm defense scrambling.
| Statistic | Chemeketa Storm | Lane Titans |
| 3-Point Field Goals | 3 | 19 |
| Total Rebounds | 25 | 43 |
| Assists | 9 | 21 |
| Bench Points | 15 | 37 |
Moving Forward
A difficult third quarter, in which the Storm were held to just five points, allowed Lane to put the game out of reach. However, Chemeketa showed pride in the final frame, nearly matching the Titans point-for-point.
The Storm will look to put this one in the rearview mirror quickly and refocus on the defensive fundamentals that have defined their successful season so far. Regrouping for the next conference test will be vital as the NWAC playoff race intensifies.
